NATO Clarifies Comments on Missing US Soldiers
In a move to address concerns and clarify its previous statements, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the status of four missing US soldiers who went missing during training exercises in Lithuania.
The clarification comes after NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed earlier that the search for the four American servicemen was ongoing. However, there were reports that he made comments suggesting that all four soldiers had perished during the incident.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, NATO clarified that while the situation was “very serious,” it was still too early to confirm the fate of the missing servicemen. The organization stated that its primary concern at this time was the welfare and safety of the individuals involved.
“NATO is deeply concerned about the well-being of our US colleagues who are currently unaccounted for in Lithuania,” said a NATO spokesperson. “We are working closely with Lithuanian authorities, as well as our US counterparts, to ensure their safe return.”
The statement also acknowledged that the incident had been referred to the FBI and the US military’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further investigation.
NATO emphasized its commitment to supporting the efforts of the US military in finding the missing servicemen. The organization has assured that it will continue to provide all necessary assistance and cooperation to help bring those involved to a safe resolution.
The incident has sparked concerns among politicians and citizens alike, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the four American soldiers.
